Plot summary: Robby, a typical 4th grader in Mrs. Harrison's class, is preparing for the science fair. His grandpa, with whom he is very close, has offered to help him gather supplies and construct a time machine. Robby got the idea from a kid's magazine called Cool Stuff for Kids. According to an article in the magazine, a person named Friedrich Dinglehopper had tried, but had given up before he met with any success. Catching Robby's enthusiasm for the somewhat outrageous project, Grandpa agrees to visit Robby the next day; he promises the boy that they will begin work on the time machine. Unfortunately, Grandpa unexpectedly dies that evening. How Robby deals with: the death of his grandpa, his suffering schoolwork, and his over-whelming science project add to the rising action of the play.
